Reflections on same sex marriage

The Anglican Church nationally and the Diocese of Melbourne (see Faithfulness in Service) has declared its view on human sexuality and marriage as a life long, monogamous and unconditional commitment between a man and a woman. 

The Federal Parliament has voted against revision of the Marriage Act to enable same sex couples to marry.  The discussion of same sex marriage has continued in parishes and wider society as a result of decisions by the Church and Parliament respectively.

Aware of these decisions and the ongoing discussion, the SRC aims to help the people and clergy of the diocese reflect on the following questions:
  • What is the significance of same sex marriage before God?
  • What is pleasing to God in relation to marriage?

During the month of October the SRC web page will display papers on this matter expressing a range of views.  Each week new papers will be posted.  Comments are invited from people across the diocese in response to the papers and the two questions just mentioned, and will be published on the site.
