The Social Responsibilities Committee is established by Act of Synod of the Diocese of Melbourne. The Committee's object is to enable the Archbishop, clergy and people of the Diocese to discern and fulfil more effectively their collective and individual responsibilities as Christians to society.

The Committee does this by acting as a resource on social issues; by identifying and formulating responses to social issues; by undertaking research and preparing materials related to social issues; by promoting education on social issues; by acting as a channel of communication with other agencies and individuals in relation to social issues.
