Out of the Depths

A special resource has been prepared for reflection and meditation by the Diocese of Melbourne.

Each day you are invited to read the Scripture text, reflect upon it, and respond to God in prayer.

You may then remain in the presence of God before returning to your everyday life to act upon what you have read.

This method is based on the traditional method of Lectio Divina, or ‘sacred reading’.

Lectio has been described as a way of chewing or digesting Scripture so that we taste the flavour and are refreshed and strengthened.

In responding and remaining, we move beyond intellectual study of the text to allowing it to become part of our relationship with the Lord. In returning, we build our insight into our daily lives.

Out of the Depths: Praying the Psalms

Psalm 118.1-2, 14-24

O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his steadfast love endures forever!

Let Israel say,

‘His steadfast love endures forever.’
