Health Chaplaincy

Chaplains in health care institutions contribute significantly to the diocese's mission in the community by providing pastoral ministry in general and specialist hospitals, palliative care and aged care centres. They are an integral part of the health care team providing specialised care. Links are also maintained with chaplains in welfare and other settings. Training programs in pastoral ministry are provided at various levels. Government grants and other external sources provide half of the funding for these services.

The Coordinator for Health Chaplaincy, The Revd Stephen Delbridge oversees all Anglican Health Chaplains within the diocese and can be contacted on 9653 4220.

Tertiary Chaplaincy

In 2005, the Diocese has 11 Anglican chaplains working on campuses of Deakin; La Trobe; Monash; RMIT; Swinburne ; and, Melbourne universities.

Tertiary chaplains are available for pastoral and spiritual care of students and staff, with confidential support and counsel offered to people of all backgrounds within the ecumenical and multi-faith context of each campus community. Our Diocesan chaplains also have a distinctive role in linking parishes and campuses so that students in particular can connect with a local Anglican community. Local parishes can also be provided with relevant information for timely points of contact for ministry and mission in the tertiary environment.
