Sign of the times for St Barnabas', Sydney

Tuesday, 27 Jul 2010

"'The new St Barnabas is coming soon!' proclaims a sign outside the old church site on Broadway," writes Matt Sheumack of Glebe. Some wag has added, 'That's what you said about Jesus!'"

This entry in the Sydney Morning Herald on 21 July  was enough to make Religious press photographer Ramon Williams grab his gear and head into town. In 2006 he photographed the burn-out shell of St Barnabas' Anglican Church following a fire which gutted the historic building. Now the ground is cleared and ready for the re-building programme, as the sign proclaimed.

"However, it seems that the reaction to the church's billboard (previously with signs outside the pub opposite) continue today," Mr Williams said.
